1. Who we are
Volkie is a social walking app made by Appretix Inc. ("Appretix", "we", "us"), a federally incorporated Canadian company. This policy covers the Volkie mobile app. Our corporate website has its own separate policy.
2. What we collect
- Account — your email address, a display name, and a password (or your Apple/Google sign-in identity). Stored securely with our backend provider (Supabase).
- Steps— step counts from your device's motion sensor, counted only during an active walk session. We never count steps in the background.
- Walk activity — walk durations, streaks, and the buddies you add, so the app can show your progress and history.
- Safety reports — if you report or block someone, we keep that record to protect our community.
We do not collect your location, contacts, or photos. Volkie has no ads, no third-party trackers, and we never sell personal data.
3. How we use it
- To match you with walking partners and run live walk sessions.
- To show your steps, streaks, and stats to you.
- To keep the community safe (reports and blocks).
- To send optional notifications you've enabled (buddy invites, walk reminders).
4. What others see
During a walk, your partner sees your display name and your live step count for that session — nothing else. Your email is never shown to other users.
5. Device permissions
- Motion & Fitness — used only to count steps during an active walk.
- Notifications — optional; buddy invites and walk reminders.
6. Retention & deleting your data
Your data is kept while your account is active. You can permanently delete your account and all associated data at any time in the app via Profile → Delete account — deletion is immediate and irreversible. You can also email developer@appretix.com and we'll delete it for you.
7. Legal basis (GDPR / PIPEDA)
We process account and walk data to perform our contract with you (running the service), and safety data under legitimate interest. For users in Canada, processing follows PIPEDA principles of accountability, consent, limiting collection, and safeguards.
8. Children
Volkie is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data.
